Your files never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Why iPhone photos will not upload

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. HEIC files are small, but many listing sites, forms and older computers cannot open them. A JPG opens almost anywhere.

If you shoot rooms with an iPhone for a listing, convert the photos to JPG before you upload them. This page converts a whole batch in one go.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

1. Add your photos. Drop up to 40 HEIC or HEIF files, each up to 50 MB, or choose them from your device.

2. Set the quality. 90 is the default. Higher keeps more detail and makes a larger file.

3. Choose a size if you need smaller files. You can keep the original size or limit the longest side to 4096, 2560, 1920 pixels. Smaller photos are never enlarged.

4. Select Convert. Download each JPG or the whole set as a ZIP file.

How it works in your browser

Some browsers, such as Safari, can read HEIC themselves. This page uses that when it works.

Other browsers cannot. For them the page loads a decoder called libheif the first time a HEIC photo needs it. It is a download of about 1.5 MB, so the first photo takes a little longer. After that it is ready for the rest of the batch. It runs on your device, inside the page, and no photo goes to a server.

Tips for iPhone photos

To make JPG photos in the first place, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay HEIC.

For a listing, check what size your site wants before you upload. The MLS photo resizer can size the converted JPGs, and keep them under a file size limit.

The JPG is a new file. The HEIC original stays where it is.

If something looks wrong

The page says the file is not a HEIC photo, or is damaged. Check that the file came from your phone or camera as HEIC. A file that was only renamed to end in .heic cannot be converted.

The converter could not start. Try another browser, or turn off an extension that blocks workers or scripts on this page. You can also export the photos as JPG from your phone.

The JPG has no camera, date or location tags. The converted file holds only the picture. Use this on purpose to share a photo without its location, or keep the HEIC original if you need the tags.

A Live Photo gives you a still image only. Its video is a separate file and is not included.

Questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac or Windows PC?

Open this page in your browser, add the HEIC files and select Convert. There is nothing to install.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser converts the photos on your own device. The only thing downloaded is the decoder, and only in browsers that cannot read HEIC themselves.

Will the JPG look the same as the HEIC?

JPG compresses differently, so a JPG is never a bit-for-bit copy. A higher quality setting keeps more detail and makes a larger file.

Why is the first photo slower?

In browsers that cannot read HEIC, the page downloads the decoder the first time it is needed. The photos after it do not wait for that.

Does it keep the date and location of the photo?

No. The JPG holds the picture only, with no camera, date or location tags.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Up to 40 at a time, each up to 50 MB. They are converted one after another. For more, run another batch.
